PLANET, MANNER-NPK and ENCASH are nutrient management software tools that are freely available for use by farmers and their advisers.
Good management of manufactured fertiliser and organic manure nutrients (e.g. nitrogen, phosphate, potash, sulphur and lime) applied to land is essential to help farmers grow the food that people want to buy, whilst minimising harm to the environment. It is an important objective for farmers to help maximise food production without unnecessary and wasteful applications of nutrients which can result in nutrient pollution of water and air. Nutrient pollution of the environment can cause serious damage and is a significant potential problem that needs to be minimised.

2026 update: New online nutrient management planning tool
In February 2026, Defra announced the launch of a new web-based free-to-use
‘Plan and Manage Nutrient Applications Tool’ (NMPT-GB) to help farmers and advisers in England and Wales plan and record their nutrient use. The tool is an online replacement for the PLANET v.3.3 and MANNER-NPK nutrient management planning tools.
NMPT-GB is available now for England and Wales. Subsequent releases will include Scotland and expand functionality including importing data from PLANET. Registered PLANET users will be emailed when this functionality is available.
The PLANET data import functionality will allow users to migrate their existing PLANET data into a new farm file in NMPT-GB. Data imported from PLANET can only be used to create a new farm file and cannot be added to a NMPT-GB farm file after it is created.
NMPT-GB was developed by Defra, ADAS and RSK Business Solutions with support from the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).
